Cycling Through The Vineyards of Hawkes Bay!

It was only last week that a group of us ladies decided to have a dash of weekend fun up at Hawkes Bay, with wine and dine as our main agenda.

Home to many vineyards that produce some of New Zealand’s award-winning wines, we booked a winery-cycle tour with On Yer Bike Tours and had such a splendid time!

If this activity is up your alley, the best time to experience this would be summertime, when temperatures are warmer and wineries are open for visitors to have tasting sessions. It was one of the last sessions that we did before most vineyards closed for winter, and we were lucky that the morning drizzle cleared just in time for us to be on our way!

Aside from bike hire, this company includes mostly everything else; from helmets, support services, trail maps and even suggestions on which restaurants to dine at in between wine-tasting.

They even have pick-up services for all the bottles you buy from different wineries so you don’t have to worry about lugging them with you as you cycle through all the vineyards!

I’d say that this is such a great activity to do as a group of friends or as a couple, and although summer would be a perfect time to enjoy all the wines, exploring that region is exceptionally beautiful in autumn, with the leaves changing into its different hues of red and gold.

We spent half a day touring a few wineries and ended with a pre-booked lunch at Te Awa Restaurant, right after our last stop at Trinity Hill.

We also booked a bach for the night that belonged to Kevern Walker’s Winery Estate, a stone’s throw away from where we did the winery-cycle tour which had more than enough room for nine of us altogether.

I don’t know about you, but I already know what I’ll be doing again when summer comes!
